Training Workshops for Parents
Parenting
This workshop is an introduction to teaching some parenting strategies that focuses on current empirically supported parenting frameworks, provides information on ‘normal development’, emphasizes the importance of attachment in the parent-child relationship and clearly outlines tools for parents to use with typically problematic behaviour.
Contents of this workshop can be tailored to ministry needs.
STEP – Systematic Training for Effective Parenting
This 8 week parenting group is based on the highly regarded S.T.E.P. * method, covering topics such as: Encouragement, Parenting Styles, Family Constellation, Goals of Behaviour, Problem-Solving, Communication, Promoting Capability and Positive Discipline.
This workshop series can be designed to meet the specific needs of certain parent groups. The S.T.E.P. program can be adjusted to 4, 6, or 8 weeks.

Secrets of the Teenage Brain (3 Part Series)
a) Secrets of the Teenage Brain (Series 1/3)
This workshop is most suitable for parents with teenagers.
Teenagers are perplexing, intriguing, and spirited creatures. To no one’s surprise, research has shown that the teenage brain is under heavy construction! These discoveries can help parents understand the (until now) unexplainable teenager.
Research based strategies for reaching teens will be discussed in this hands-on workshop. Our time together will offer parents fresh strategies that work for engaging erratic, distracted, and often-unpredictable teenagers.
Topics that will be discussed will include:
- The benefits and challenges of raising adolescents
- The teenage brain
- The key issues affecting cognition and adolescent learners’ emotional, social, physical, and spiritual well-being
- Strategies and ideas to help parents navigate the teenage years
This workshop is usually limited to 12 spaces due to the hands-on activities involved.
b) Making Sense of Anxiety and Its Effects on the Teenage Brain (Series 2/3)
Topics that will be discussed will include:
- Types of anxiety disorders
- Vulnerability of the teenage brain
- Environmental factors and daily habits that influence teenage brains
- Effect ways to treat anxiety
c) Trauma and Healing the Teenage Brain (Series 3/3)
Topics that will be discussed will include:
- Identifying trauma
- How teens respond to trauma
- Helping your teen deal with trauma
- Trauma and addiction
- Healing the teenage brain
A certificate will be given when workshop series 1-3 is completed
Parenting Gifted Teens
This workshop is suitable for students and parents in grades 6-12 who are interested in learning more about honours & gifted programs in the city of Vancouver & the city of Burnaby.
Is my child gifted? What is giftedness anyways? How can parents help gifted teens? How can talented adolescents cope with the myriad obstacles to developing their talents? Come and join us for an evening on how we can parent gifted teens and discover the resources available.
Topics that will be discussed:
- What giftedness is?
- Resources for families
- Honours & gifted programs in Vancouver & Burnaby
This workshop is limited to 20 spaces.
Educating Children in Canada
This workshop is designed for parents, immigrant parents, ministry & youth workers, and teachers.
This presentation focuses on the ethos of the Canadian educational system and how systems such as this form children. This presentation also presents parents with insights into struggles their children may face because of differences between the culture of their family with the culture of their country.
This workshop is limited to 20 spaces.
Planning Towards Graduation and Beyond
BC’s Grade 10-12 Graduation Program.
This workshop is most suitable for parents in grades 8-12.
What will my child be when they grow up? What career will then engage in? What University/College/Vocation can they apply to? This workshop will focus on educating parents on how to journey with their child from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Through this hour, parents will be able to learn how to map out their child’s educational journey and how to help them in course selection. Also, parents will be more familiar with the BC Graduation Program and gain resources to further research Post-Secondary and scholarship opportunities.

- Planning 10-12 courses
- Planning for Post-Secondary and beyond
- Resources to access Scholarships and Financial AidHow best to support your child
This workshop is usually limited to 15 spaces.
Managing Post Partum Depression
This workshop gives an introduction to postpartum depression and addresses the following areas:
- What is Postpartum Depression?
- Focusing on Self Care
- Managing negative thoughts
- Effective Coping strategies
- What is attachment?
